Connor Watson’s NSW Origin dream began nearly 20 years ago when he appeared in a TV advert alongside two of his favourite blues singers, Nathan Hindmarsh and Matt King.
During the 2006 Origin series, Watson, then 10 years old and sporting shaggy blond hair, appeared in an advert for NRL football cards alongside two New South Wales players and the Maroons’ Pietro Sivonisheva and Justin Hodges.
Watson, 28, is no stranger to the small screen, having starred in Football Showhe told host Paul Wadding that he wanted to play for Newcastle.
Then there are a few guest appearances Home and awayincluding a scene where he is seen playing pool in a tight T-shirt at the Summer Bay restaurant.
Watson, who recently set up a production company with brother Fletcher, has always had an interest in film and television. For now, though, the Roosters all-rounder is happy to be injury-free, having missed all of last year with a ruptured patellar tendon, and is on the verge of realising his Origin dream.
King, who is one of Michael Maguire’s assistant coaches in the New South Wales camp, reminded Watson of the TV advert.

“The Origin ad was brilliant, it was shot in the parking lot of a big industrial complex,” Watson told the newspaper Headlines. “We had the Matt King football card and then ‘Kingy’ rushed through. Those guys were legends. After that, I liked Kingy and Hindy even more.
“They released a State of Origin board game at the same time, and I was involved in the advertising. I was also involved in Home and awayI boarded at Knox Grammar School in Years 11 and 12. I didn’t have a job, but I was in school plays, which I loved.
