With a relatively small number of decks, it’s easy to avoid the elevators and take the stairs (think of the carbs in pasta and pizza). As you walk through the ship, in addition to the grand mall-style atrium space typical of large cruise ships, you can’t ignore the contemporary art collection created mainly by Italian artists, which contrasts with the relatively conservative nature of Silver Muse. One of the most attractive spaces on Silver Muse is the spacious Panorama Lounge, open from early morning to late at night. Located on the highest deck, it is the perfect place to enjoy coffee, cocktails and magnificent sea views. Another main venue is the Art Café on the eighth floor, which serves delicious Italian Illy brand espresso and a variety of delicious sandwiches, appetizers, parfaits and pastries. It is also a good choice for those who want a light Italian breakfast instead of a full buffet.

The Deluxe Balcony Room type you reviewed includes a spacious 36 square meter hotel room, including a balcony accessible through floor-to-ceiling windows. The muted brown and beige tones throughout the ship carry through to the Balcony Suites. Silver Muse’s expression of its Italian roots doesn’t stop with the much-loved beer. As is the case with a luxury cruise ship with Italian roots, the marble bathrooms (some with bathtubs) come with luxurious Bulgari toiletries, Ortigia Sicilian bath products and signature Etro white bathrobes. After a thorough soak and aromatherapy, you can sink into the incredibly comfortable custom-made bed, which is covered with 400-thread-count Egyptian cotton sheets provided exclusively for Silversea by Italian textile manufacturer Rivolta Carmignani.

If you thought Italian was the only food and wine on offer on Silver Muse, don’t worry, as there are no fewer than eight intimate specialty restaurants on board, offering everything from casual Japanese teppanyaki to formal French cuisine. But you’ll find yourself returning to La Terrazza, where fresh pasta is served daily, such as the excellent fettuccine with duck confit, and where conditions permit, you can dine alfresco outside the main enclosed dining room, just aft of Silver Muse on mid-deck. Elsewhere, overlooking the pool deck, you’ll find an ice cream parlor and a pizza shop. Long live Italy.
And of course, there’s a pizza parlor…and a cruise line that celebrates its national origins.

The light-filled Zagara Beauty Spa at Silversea features nine treatment rooms, an acupuncture suite, relaxation areas and a dedicated outdoor whirlpool. Treatments on offer include facials, body wraps and massages, and there are separate male and female saunas and steam rooms for relaxation before your treatment.

Continuing the Italian theme, Dolce Vita is the central gathering and meeting place on Silver Muse, where guests can order cocktails, wines and spirits at certain times of the day, accompanied by live piano music. There is also the Venetian Lounge, a Belle Époque-style cabaret venue with music and theater performances and feature film screenings every night.

Surprisingly, for a country as devoutly Catholic as the Philippines, there are only two saints. By the end of your cruise, you may want to nominate at least one of the ship’s Filipino butlers, as your fellow reviewers have done. Dressed in black tuxedos (Americans love this faux formality), the butlers are at your service, and we mean, to your every need, including, if you like, having a glass of premium flat white delivered to your cabin every morning. Reward them generously before you disembark.

After a few weeks cruising aboard the Silver Muse, you won’t have to spend too much time pondering its many pros and cons. This luxurious yet low-key, no-gimmick ship, with its Italian flair, is ideal for the wealthy, thoughtful, and service-conscious traveler.

Swelling Did we mention the coffee? Australians will appreciate the high standard of coffee served on Silver Muse, especially compared to other cruise lines that don’t target Starbucks.
not too good In an economy reliant on tourism, New Zealand’s port authorities could do a better job of improving terminal access and movement procedures (except in Auckland) to facilitate passengers.
