Speaking about the loss of national party registration, he admitted that they (the Chuchos) did not take the necessary steps and did not renew on time, “and as far as the PRD is concerned, we bear the consequences.” However, he placed part of the blame on President López Obrador, whom he called “the chief culprit of electoral crime” and accused him of “imposing these results.”
Jesús Ortega and Jesús Zambrano lead the Nueva Izquierda current that dominates the party. After the event, Jesús Ortega was asked what he thought about the accusations that Nueva Izquierda is responsible for the moment that the PRD is going through.
In response, he suggested addressing structural problems by changing the party’s name and format, citing the split with Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who left the party in 2012, as the root cause of the PRD’s deterioration.

Six years later, in 2018, they received 1,602,715 votes, and now they only retain local registration in 13 of the 32 states, and received 1,078,701 votes in the federal election, thus losing the national party registration.
He pledged to hold the state election but acknowledged that voters decided not to give them the ballots they needed to register because “we did not have the courage, determination and conviction to make a decision in time because the conservative spirit invaded” us.
“We did not take urgent radical decisions in time and ultimately succumbed to internal pressure within the leadership from other currents and even from our colleagues in the New Left.”
During the meeting at the Fiesta Hotel on Reforma Avenue, the militants called for renewal and listening to different voices, including those of young people, people with disabilities and the LGBTTTIQ+ community. Jesús Zambrano assured that he would not participate in the leadership of the new process that he wanted to form with Marea Rosa, while Jesús Ortega said that his participation would be “like that of another PRD member” and stressed the attraction of new groups to the game.
