Dubai Police General Command, represented by the Port Police Station and the Aviation Wing Center, successfully rescued eight fishermen whose fishing boat collided with a commercial cargo ship and crashed, with three of them injured to varying degrees. After being injured, they were transferred to Rashid Hospital in Dubai.
Brigadier General Hassan Suhail Al Suwaidi, Director of the Port Police Station, explained that the accident occurred late at night when a commercial cargo ship carrying eight sailors on its way to Yubin collided with a fishing boat. Due to the collision, the ship was pushed two miles away, and when the ship stopped, the ship had an accident and three sailors suffered varying degrees of injuries, and they were sent to Rashid Hospital. At the same time, the maritime rescue team rushed to rescue the other five crew members.
Commodore Al Suwaidi added: “Due to the large size of the cargo ship, it was not possible to enter the port, so the sea rescue vessel quickly transferred the crew from the ship to the center despite the bad weather and high waves caused by the strong wind.”
The Port Police Chief warned mariners not to ignore warnings about weather fluctuations, especially during this time of year, as changes in sea conditions can increase the chances of accidents and drowning, especially for those who are not good swimmers and do not recognize the dangers of these fluctuations.
He also called on ship captains to register with the “Safe Sail” service available in the Dubai Police app, which provides them with the ability to input their travel plans and expected places to go, to help them easily call for help and locate their location if one of them encounters any emergency, stressing that the service provides an “SOS” function for sailors and captains to call for help at the touch of a button.
