Autumn has arrived but it looks like summer is not over yet, with temperatures expected to remain high in Auckland this week.
Joggers were jogging, anglers were fishing, and many people were out enjoying the warm and humid weather today.
Meanwhile, a tropical depression between Vanuatu and Fiji could develop into a tropical cyclone but is unlikely to hit the country.
“The northeasterly flow is bringing warm, moist air down from the tropics, which is why it’s warm and moist,” MetService meteorologist Tom Adams said.
“Low pressure to the east of the country is slowing down wind speeds.”
Kawerau in the Bay of Plenty was the hottest place in the country, with temperatures reaching 31.8C.
In the north, Auckland Airport reached 26.1C.
Auckland is expected to have warm weather this week with temperatures around 25C before dropping to 24C on Friday.
Adams said tropical depressions over the Pacific islands “look unlikely to hit New Zealand, most likely not”.
“From Friday the cyclone will move into New Zealand waters. It will not hit New Zealand like Cyclone Gita did.”
Adams said Hawke’s Bay and Gisborne were likely to see heavy rain and strong winds on Thursday and Friday.
