Look for the Balla family who came here from Easeny, Sana Baras, Hungary in the early 20th century. My great-great-grandfather, Alexander (Sandor) Balla, was born there in 1886. He lived in Budapest for a while before coming to the United States. He married Julia Molnar in Brooklyn, New York in 1907, who was born in Hungary in 1885. My great-great-grandmother told me that she remembered her grandfather and grandmother, Alexander’s parents, also coming to the United States. His father’s name was Stephen. I heard that he came to the United States first, and actually had another family in the United States before his children and wife came to the United States. This family was believed to be somewhere in the “East” (East Coast or nearby). When Stephen’s Hungarian family came to the United States, he was found by his son Alexander, who left his second family and eventually moved to California with his first wife, settling in the Watsonville area. Stephen and his first wife had four children, Stephen also settled in California, his wife’s name was Susan; Sophie, Alexander (my great-great-grandfather), and Julia. One of the children was blind. I heard there was another child, but no one remembers his name – he may have died young or stayed in Hungary.
