Santo Domingo.- Dominican low-cost airline Arajet and the Punta Cana Group announced this Sunday an agreement that will see the company’s flights begin operating at Punta Cana International Airport on November 1 next year.

Frank Elías Rainieri, executive president of the Punta Cana Group, and Víctor Pacheco, founder and president of the airline, said that this alliance will have an extraordinary impact on the number of passengers transported by Arajet, strengthening the number of tourists arriving on flights to the eastern part of the Dominican Republic.

Pacheco explained that the Punta Cana terminal will become Arajet’s second base, offering the tourist region access to a “strong network of destinations” and more than 200 transfer combinations offered by the airline, which will continue to serve as its central base at Las Americas International Airport in Santo Domingo.

“We are committed to ensuring that Arajet continues to be the airline of all Dominicans, which is why we always want to fly to all airports in the country, giving them the opportunity to travel to other destinations at the lowest prices on the market,” added Pacheco.

Rainieri said he was grateful to the airline for “the trust it has placed in Punta Cana Airport and for inviting us to participate in its expansion plans to boost tourism and the country’s economic growth.”

“We are delighted to welcome them as a commercial partner to our airport community in what we believe will be a successful alliance. With these new routes, we continue to expand our network of international destinations and connections and position ourselves as the most important airport in the Dominican Republic.”

Punta Cana Airport handles 68% of the country’s tourist air traffic, is connected to 75 cities in 34 countries by 58 airlines, and transports more than 9 million passengers each year.

Arajet’s destination from Punta Cana will be announced later, according to the message.

Arajet was the Dominican airline with the most passengers in the first four months of 2024, accounting for 8% of the country’s total passenger traffic in May last year.
