Ms. Zr. Karel Dorman treated a casualty on board for the first time during a mission in the Red Sea. The incident involved personnel on board a merchant ship that was hit by two missiles in the Gulf of Aden. The victim arrived in Djibouti today for further treatment.
The Karel Gatekeeper took action on Thursday after receiving an urgent message from a merchant ship. The attack took place in an area where Houthi militants are active. A fire broke out on board after the rocket attack. The victim was injured.
The logistic support ship has, among other things, a hospital and related medical personnel, especially for such cases. On board the USS Philippine Sea was Hr.Ms. Carel Dorman, who was then accompanied to Djibouti.
Treating the wounded is one of the important tasks of the HNLMS Karel Dormann in the Red Sea. The ship is there on the European ASPID mission.
It also provides fuel to partner vessels, etc. Aspides aims to promote free passage and protection of shipping in the Red Sea.
