PM at injured police officer’s bedside
Prime Minister Garry Conille, accompanied by Justice Minister Carlos Hercule, paid his respects on Saturday to the bedside of Luckson Sanon, the 19th police officer, who was attacked two weeks ago while on duty on his way to Freire.
UN welcomes new Haitian government
UN Secretary-General António Guterres welcomed the inauguration of the new Haitian government and urged stakeholders to continue restoring democratic institutions through elections. Speaking to reporters, UN Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq said that “positive steps in transitional governance” should be accompanied by much-needed security progress. “The Secretary-General therefore reiterates his call for the swift deployment of the Multinational Security Support Mission (MMSS) in Haiti to help the Haitian National Police cope with the dire security situation,” Haq said.
Against Child Labor
As part of the International Day against Child Labour, the Platform of Haitian Human Rights Organizations (POHDH) organized a day of recreational and training activities to raise awareness of the rights of children forcibly displaced from the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area. It was an opportunity to listen to the needs of these children who are subjected to daily violence in the refugee camps.
Culture: New minister wants to highlight all talents
On Friday, June 14, Agriculture Minister Vernet Joseph appointed the new Minister of Culture, Antoine Augustin, who also serves as Minister of National Education. In his speech, Minister Augustin said he wanted to highlight the talent and artistic abilities of our young people, especially those living in rural areas. Whether it is painting, music, dance, theater or writing, the Minister intends to give new impetus to the inspiring and expressive creations of Haitian art.
