Germany’s Federal Statistical Office announced that Germany exported 786,000 electric cars in 2023, while it imported 446,000 electric cars from other countries. The office added in data released today that German electric car exports significantly exceeded German electric car imports in the past year, with exports worth 36 billion euros, while imports amounted to 14.1 billion euros.
Data shows that China is the most important importer of electric vehicles in Germany, with a share of 29%, ahead of South Korea, with a share of just under 10%.
Exports of pure electric vehicles grew 58% last year, while imports rose 23.5%, the office explained, noting that electric cars only accounted for around 25% of German car exports last year.
German factories produced 973,000 electric cars last year, up 59.9 percent, while production of cars powered by internal combustion engines was 2.4 million, up 7.9 percent, the data showed.
