The Prime Minister once again expressed his condolences for the death of the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and their entourage, and he also stressed the importance of strengthening relations with Iran and maintaining security and stability in Iraq, the Kurdistan Region and the entire region.
Iran’s foreign minister said Iran hopes to strengthen relations at all levels with the Kurdistan Region and thanked the Kurdistan Regional Government for providing assistance and facilitation to Iranian tourists visiting holy sites in central and southern Iraq.
After the meeting, the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Acting Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in a joint press statement, stressed the importance of the visit and the discussions held between them, which were aimed at strengthening cooperation and developing relations between the two countries in various fields.
On the other hand, Nazim Dabbagh, the representative of the Kurdistan Regional Government in Tehran, believes that the visit of the Iranian acting foreign minister to the Kurdistan Region demonstrates the important status enjoyed by the Kurdistan Region and “will contribute to achieving a better future for the Kurdish people in the region.”
Nazim Dabbagh said that “Ali Bagheri’s visit to the Kurdistan Region is the result of the visit of Kurdistan Region President Nechivan Barzani to Tehran,” noting that these moves are aimed at “restoring relations to their previous better state and resolving issues through dialogue.”
The representative of the Kurdistan Regional Government in Tehran said that Bagheri’s visit to Iraq and the Kurdistan Region is also related to the current situation in the region.
The Kurdistan Regional Government representative continued: “The Islamic Republic of Iran demonstrates that the Kurdistan Region has an important place of friendship and alliance within the federal and constitutional framework of Iraq… This visit will contribute to achieving a better future for the Kurds in the region.”
Regarding the agreement between the Kurdistan Region, Iraq and Iran, Nazem Dabbagh said, “One of the purposes of this delegation’s visit to the Kurdistan Region is to confirm and reassure the Kurdistan Region and Iraq on the implementation of the agreement reached with Iran… and to emphasize the need to better address the shortcomings.”
Iranian Acting Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri arrived in Erbil today, Friday (June 14, 2024), and then went to Sulaymaniyah.
Iran’s acting foreign minister arrived in Baghdad on Thursday morning for meetings with senior officials to discuss bilateral relations and the regional situation.
During the meeting, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Hijau al-Sudani and Bagheri stressed the “effective implementation” of the memorandums of understanding reached between the two countries in various fields.
