Dutch strong criticism of Surinamese “objective” media and analysts

In a blunt interview with GFC News, Surinamese analyst Soeroechomento expressed his concerns about the state of media and political analysis in Suriname.

He said it was a mess that the media and analysts claimed to be objective but in reality often pursued hidden political agendas.

The observer, who is of Surinamese descent and lives in the Netherlands, was particularly critical of the rise of analysts pretending to be impartial on social media.

“These so-called impartial experts are by no means neutral. Although they claim to be objective, their true intentions are obvious,” he said fiercely.

He specifically expressed his dissatisfaction with analysts who emphasize that they are objective in their analytical process, while their comments and conclusions are often clearly politically biased.

While he acknowledged that there were exceptions, such as Hikmat Mahawat Khan and R. Pinas, who he said shared their views sincerely and fairly, he believed that most people were biased.

“The rest are all in the same boat. Many analysts and media outlets are in cahoots with political parties, causing their reporting and analysis to distort reality,” he added.

The Dutch criticism reveals problems in Suriname’s media landscape, where objectivity is often subordinated to political interests.

This raises questions about the reliability of information provided to the public.
