Government's position on extending the truce for two months

The Government of the Republic of Yemen welcomes the announcement by the UN Special Envoy, after consultation and approval by the Yemeni Government, that the ceasefire agreement will be extended for another two months, until October 2, 2022, as previously stipulated.

Recalling that the main goal of the truce is to stop the bloodshed in Yemen caused by the war triggered by the Houthi coup militias and to facilitate the freedom of movement of civilians throughout Yemen and the flow of goods, humanitarian and commercial services, which is achieved by facilitating travel through Sana’a Airport and the entry of oil derivatives through the port of Hodeidah. However, the city of Taiz remains under siege and 4 million people are still suffering from the cruel punishment imposed by the Houthi militias, waiting for the fulfillment of the truce commitments, even though four months have passed since the truce was promised.

The Yemeni government stressed the need to fully implement the terms of the ceasefire, stop all illegal activities of the Houthi armed forces, complete the unfinished tasks of the previous period, and immediately begin to lift the brutal siege of the city of Taiz and its people, immediately open the main roads in Taiz and other provinces, and ensure that the revenue from the port of Hodeidah is used to pay the salaries of civil servants and retirees in areas still controlled by the Houthi militias.

In this regard, it affirms its strong support for all efforts by the United Nations and its Special Envoy to achieve a comprehensive and just peace, in accordance with the three agreed terms of reference, first and foremost, international resolution 2216.
