Future Touch stars shine – Cook Islands News

The teams showed great determination and skills in the Cook Islands Touch Business House round robin finals at the Nikau National Stadium on Monday.

Despite the cold weather, the contestants showed off their outstanding talents and had a fierce but friendly competition.

Cook Islands Touch Rugby President Vou Williams expressed admiration for the skill level of some of the players, especially those new to the field of touch rugby. He was pleased to see young people participating in each team and hoped that their interest in touch rugby would continue and that their potential would be realised.

On Court 1, the first match of the day was an exciting match between Poos & Wees and BCI. BCI won by a single point before the end of the match. In another exciting match on the same court, Rock College won by a single point over Soul Time. Meanwhile, on Court 2, KAPS and Fiber Optics battled it out at 5-5, with neither team willing to concede defeat.

There were several standout players this week, including CSB’s youngster Tahitoa Webb, affectionately known to the crowd as the ‘Tahi Stepper.’ Tahitoa’s calm performance was impressive, playing alongside his brother Kima Webb and father Daniel Webb – all three contributed to CSB’s impressive win.

Another young talent, Aiganalua Samania of Poos & Wees, played a major role in the midfield under the guidance of his father Ailaoa Samania and uncle Andy Kapi, both respected former Cook Islands representatives, who showed their legacy.

Elsewhere, Kimberly Uini of Rock College showed off her prowess as the “wing queen,” expertly receiving long passes from teammates and holding her own line.

This round was also the last few rounds before the elimination round. In the Business School Round Robin Group A, AIRNZ won first place with a stable and strong performance and became the champion team. BCI followed closely and won second place, showing their competitive advantage. Poos & Wees won third place, showing excellent skills and determination. Rock College ranked fourth, while CSB and Soul Time ranked fifth and sixth respectively.

In Group B, Air Raro took the top spot with a strong performance throughout the tournament to take first place. KAPS took second place, showing their talent and teamwork. Fiber Optics took third place, continuing their strong performance on the field. ICI Crew took fourth place and Te Mavericks Ora took fifth. Brew Crew took sixth place. The Group B rankings reflect a very competitive group of teams, all preparing for the exciting group crossover playoffs next Monday.
