Caregivers working throughout the region and in different institutions: from the Médipôle to the Nouvel Clinic, the Centre Hospitalier du Nord, the CHS, nursing homes and even self-employed people working in pharmacies.

A total of nearly 300 healthcare professionals signed the forum, calling for a return, first and foremost, to the Caledonian model of social protection based on solidarity. “Protect all Caledonians, without distinction as to the main risks: sickness, old age, maternity, occupational injuries, disability and death”. Caledonia’s health system,Based on French medical education, it has become a reference in quality and care throughout the Pacific region”.

According to its signatories, if this achievement is “Values shared by all Caledonians (…) The systemic consequences of the events that began on May 13, 2024 threaten to destroy everything we have worked so hard and patiently to build“, assures the Caledonian health professionals. They also return to the difficulties of RUAMM and CAFAT in the region. And the successive crises, “Delays in the implementation of public policies have further contributed to the loss of the territory’s attractiveness, especially for qualified professionals.”.

The unprecedented circumstances encountered over the past four weeks could very well lead to the end of the health system as we know it within a matter of days.”, assured the nearly 300 signatories of the platform.

Health facilities have been vandalized, inaccessible or looted, the freedom of movement of patients and professionals has been hampered, supply chains have collapsed, violence and hatred have reached unprecedented levels, coffers are empty, the country’s future is uncertain, and maintaining the Caledonian social order contract has become impossible.”, the health expert insisted.

Caregivers make two requests:

  • The first is for all Caledonians to help health professionals “Continue to carry out its mission calmly and without discrimination, in accordance with its moral commitment to cease all forms of violence and protect health-care institutions from any identity provocation or political demands”.
  • The second solemn request is to elected officials. Health professionals want CAFAT to be directly supervised by the state.New Caledonia is too weak to respond to the huge financial demands generated by “these new events”. Without financial visibility of social account balances and the certainty of getting paid, no health professional can continue to work.”.

The signatories of the Forum recall its main objectives: “Be able to continue to treat yourself well”, said nearly 300 health professionals.
