“Education” determines the conditions under which students transition between educational tracks

The Ministry of Education has established a number of criteria and conditions for the transfer of students between educational tracks (General, Advanced, Applied and Elite) during this academic year, and the transfer of students from one track to another will take place until the end of the third week of the current semester (first semester).

The Ministry of Education, in the “Guidelines for Transfer Credit Articulation for Admissions in the Academic Year 2024-2025 and Its Implementation Mechanism,” said that students in grades five to eight (second cycle) are eligible to transfer from the “advanced” to the “normal” track,” where the transfer is based on the student’s wish or on the basis of his low academic performance or the opinion of the Academic Support Committee.

Students in grades 6 to 8 must transfer from advanced to regular courses if they fail in mathematics or science or as determined by the Academic Support Committee, while students in grades 9 to 12 are eligible to transfer from regular to advanced courses based on the student’s willingness and commitment to choose a plan for elective subjects after meeting with an academic advisor.

For the 10th grade students in applied courses, as long as they have achieved 85% or above in mathematics and English, they are eligible to transfer to the general course, while students (11th-12th grade) are not eligible to transfer to the general course. They are transferred from applied courses to general courses because the requirements of mathematics and science courses in general courses are higher than the output of applied courses.

For a grade 11 student in the elite track, he is eligible to transfer to the general track according to his own will and is obliged to choose the scenario of elective subjects after meeting with the academic advisor when entering the 11th grade. As for the grade 12 student, he is not eligible to transfer from the elite track to the general track, but the elite track students with lower grades must transfer to the advanced track according to the support plan.

Regarding the admission criteria and conditions for entry into the Advanced Course (Second Cycle), the Ministry of Education adopted the criteria for acceptance into the “Advanced” course registration based on the results at the end of the second semester, emphasizing that students need to meet the academic level conditions in all three subjects (Mathematics, Science and English) for Advanced Course registration.

The Ministry of Education has listed the admission scores in three subjects for grades 4 to 8 as the ministry has determined the acceptable scores for students in grades 4 and 5 to transfer to the advanced program to be 90% pass in mathematics and science, and 80% in English language, while stipulating that students who wish to transfer to the advanced program from grades 6 to 8 must score 80% in all three subjects.

Regarding the admission criteria for third-year students (grades 9 to 12) and the conditions for transfer to advanced courses, they focus on students achieving 80% in three subjects (maths-science-English).

The guidelines mention that students in the general classes from grades 5 to 10 are eligible to transfer to the advanced classes, and similarly, students in grades 11-12 are eligible to transfer from the elite classes to the advanced classes if they wish to do so and commit to choosing a plan of elective subjects after meeting with their academic advisor. If students in these two grades of the elite courses have low or failed grades in mathematics and one or more science subjects at the end of the academic year, they will be forced to transfer from the elite courses to the advanced courses.

The Ministry of Education said only students in Grade 10, whether in the general or advanced stream, will be eligible to transfer to the applied stream if they meet the admission criteria.

• Tenth grade students in the Applied curriculum are eligible to transfer to the General curriculum if they achieve 85% or higher in Mathematics and English.

• Students in grades six through eight who fail math or science must move from advanced to regular courses.
