ACCRA, Aug. 31 (Xinhua) — At a three-day medical industry summit and exhibition, China’s latest cutting-edge medical technologies left a deep impression on Ghana’s health sector professionals.
The event, held from Monday to Wednesday in Accra, Ghana, was organized by the West African Health Community, a Chinese company based in Ghana that aims to support capacity building of all health institutions in West Africa.
Chinese manufacturers and distributors exhibited laboratory equipment, dental, ophthalmic and acupuncture technologies, ventilators and scanners. Other equipment on display included advanced oxygen concentrators, analyzers and generators, with on-site experts demonstrating how they work to interested Ghanaians and West African medical staff.
Zhongshan Qingfeng Electrical Technology Co., Ltd. from southern China displayed its latest technologies in the field of oxygen therapy, including different types of oxygen concentrators suitable for small and large medical institutions as well as some home care.
Wang Lixin, the company’s overseas market manager, told Xinhua that these products were developed after a period of research that identified patients’ needs for oxygen therapy, and their products are very effective in providing solutions for such patients.
“This is our first time in Ghana, and we have made some friends here. It is an honor to attend this summit. We look forward to cooperating with local hospitals and agents in the future,” said Mr. Wang.
“We will do our best to support local healthcare in Ghana with our specialized equipment,” he said, adding that the company hopes to find qualified agents to distribute their products in Ghana and West Africa.
Another Chinese company specializing in the supply of medical equipment, Zetop, also participated in the exhibition. The company provides equipment to hospitals, clinics and other medical institutions.
During the summit, Zetuo Foreign Trade Manager Jiang Qian expressed her excitement after meeting with several hospital representatives who visited the company’s booth.
“I am very happy to see that the Ghanaian market provides many cooperation opportunities for Ghanaian and Chinese companies and medical institutions. We hope that China-Africa medical cooperation will usher in a brighter future,” said Jiang Yu.
The 11-year-old company already has agents in Somalia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya and Zimbabwe, and hopes to expand into West Africa through Ghana, she said.
“It’s exciting what’s happening here,” said Sandra Asong, president of the Ghana Herbal Medicine Association. “China’s medical technology has advanced. Considering the variety of items and medical equipment on display here, I think China has come a long way.”
Asong, who is also the director of the Department of Complementary and Alternative Medicine at Lekma Hospital in the capital of Ghana, expressed his appreciation for the advanced Chinese medicines and tools on display at the exhibition.
“Ghana and China have broad prospects for mutually beneficial cooperation in the medical field. Not only me, but also my association members have learned a lot here. We hope that more such technologies and skills can enter Ghana to improve healthcare,” she added.
Margaret-Marie Borzi, a biomedical engineer at the Ghana Health Service, said she was amazed by the advanced life-saving medical technologies displayed by Chinese companies at the event.
“The oxygen concentrators I saw here are fully digital and portable, unlike the analog ones in Ghana, where you can see everything on the screen and monitor all the parameters,” Boltesi told Xinhua.
She urged West African governments to invest in equipping their health facilities with such advanced technologies in order to provide more efficient healthcare services and better outcomes for their citizens.
“I hope that we will have the opportunity in the future to visit some of the manufacturers in China and see first-hand what they are doing and adopt their technology for the benefit of Ghana’s health sector,” she added.
