Dili, June 11, 2024 (TATOLI) — President Horta and the Finnish Ambassador to Timor-Leste exchanged views on strengthening relations and identifying areas for future cooperation.
The President of the Republic, José Ramos-Horta, received today at the Nicolás Lobato Presidential Palace, the Non-Resident Ambassador of Finland to Timor-Leste, Paka Kelsilati.
Ambassador Kelshilahti said in an interview after the meeting that the two sides exchanged views on current global issues and situations.
Kelhilahti thanked Prime Minister Xanana Gusmao for participating in the recent Geneva Peace Conference in Ukraine, noting that Timor-Leste’s views coincided with those of very small and very large countries on many issues.
Ambassador Kelsirati said another key aspect was discussing Timor-Leste’s economic and development prospects with government officials: “Finland’s goal is to identify areas of cooperation, support and potential business opportunities for this young country.”
Kelsilaty said the meeting not only opened up more opportunities for bilateral cooperation between Finland and Timor-Leste, but could also involve Germany and the wider European Union.
The President of the Republic expressed his gratitude for the visit of Ambassador Kjelcilahti and welcomed the strengthening of relations with European partners.
