A senior government delegation of ministers and backbenchers will leave the UK this weekend for Australia to take part in various strategic events.
The 14-member delegation, led by Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Mines, Energy and Rural Electrification Bradley Billy “Smokey” Rodo Tovosia, will be on an intensive week-long official schedule. The visit is critical as it is in line with the GNUT’s vision to stimulate economic growth, address pressing challenges and promote positive change in the Solomon Islands.
The delegation had a busy agenda, aimed at following up on previous discussions on the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) program.
First on the agenda is exploring opportunities to expand and diversify the labour mobility programme. The delegation will work to gather insights to contribute to the proposed revised policy document on the labour mobility programme currently awaiting Cabinet review.
The policy aims to improve the welfare and conditions of Solomon Islanders participating in the program, maximising the potential for our citizens to thrive in the Australian labour market.
As part of the visit, the delegation plans to meet seasonal workers in their work environments in the Solomon Islands to demonstrate their commitment to understanding their experiences and ensuring their contributions are recognised and valued.
The Land Commissioner will also accompany the delegation to meet with lawyers from Levers Solomon’s Limited and Russell Islands Plantation Limited and resolve incidental issues relating to the ownership of Levers land.
A highlight of the summit will be a major dialogue with the Australian private sector to promote business opportunities in the Solomon Islands.
National Unity and Transformation The Government is seriously advancing legislation and policies on socio-economic transformation, human resource development, and national unity.
