Jamaica’s Akela Nugent once again broke her national record in the 100m hurdles set in July at the National Stadium, lowering her time from 12.28 to 12.24 seconds.

Nugent achieved the feat at the Wanda Diamond League Gold Gala at Rome’s Stadio Olimpico, breaking the previous meet record of 12.37 seconds set in 2022 by Puerto Rico’s Jasmine Camacho-Quinn.

The Jamaican also beat Olympic champion Marsai Russell of the United States, who finished second in 12.31 seconds.

Previously, Russell maintained the world lead with a time of 12.25 seconds.

Nadine Visser of the Netherlands was third in 12.52 and Cyréna Samba-Mayela of France was fourth in 12.57.

World indoor champion Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas failed to finish the race, while former world record holder Kendra Harrison of the United States was sixth in 12.70.

Charlton encountered some obstacles and was forced to give up.
