Creole from Caguas returns to BSN throne after 18 years – Metro Puerto Rico

Los Angeles Caguas Creole They returned to the throne National Senior Basketball (BSN) By defeating Manatee Bear In Game 7 of the series finale.

At the beginning of the first quarter, the two teams were tied and had advantages over each other until the end of the first ten minutes, when the Bears led 20-19.

In the second set, the court was damp due to the drop in light, so the game was suspended for a few minutes. After the suspension, both teams improved their offense compared to the first quarter. Criollos de Caguas scored 30 points, while the Bears scored 25 points, leading 49-45 at halftime.

Before the break, the Creoles shot an average of 52 percent (19-36) from the field, while the Bears shot 48 percent (19-39).

It wasn’t until 7 minutes and 37 seconds that the Manati Bears scored their first point in the third quarter, and Caguas led 5-0 in the first minute after halftime. The key was the third quarter, when Caguas scored 26 points and Manati scored 13 points. The Creole team led by 19 points in this quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Crio Los Caguas extended their lead to 19 points in the first few minutes. The final score was 96-81.

Creole’s Travis Trice, the MVP of the season and the Finals series, had 11 points and eight assists in the win.

Criollos de Caguas has not won a title since the 2006 season when they defeated Cangrejeros de Santurce at the José Miguel Agrelot Coliseum. That was the team’s only title in the local basketball league in 1969.

Led by former player Rick Elias, the Creoles, with help from John Herrero and Omar Vargas, made a successful return to the league led by head coach Williams Kanin and MVP Travis Trice.

A BSN team has not won at home since 2017. Notably, this was the only game in the series that the home team won, after both Osos and Creole had won the three games as visitors.
