This was the 12th ceremony held on Thursday evening, August 30, 2024, at the Rwandan Armed Forces headquarters in Kimuchura.
According to the Rwandan Ministry of Defence, the retirees include general-level soldiers, senior officers, soldiers of other ranks who have retired, and soldiers whose employment contracts have been terminated.
In addition to the Minister of Defense Juvenal Marizamunda, who presided over the ceremony, the Commander-in-Chief of the Rwandan Armed Forces, General Mubarah Muganga, leaders of the Rwandan military services, general-level soldiers and senior officers of the Rwandan Defense Force.

The Minister of Defense, Juvenal Marizamunda, on behalf of the President of the Republic and the Commander-in-Chief of the Rwandan Armed Forces, thanked all the retired soldiers for the role they played in the struggle to liberate the country, for stopping the genocide against the Tutsi and for fighting to this day to develop the country.
Minister Marizamunda asked them to continue their dedication as in the past even during their lifetime and leave an example for the young soldiers.

“I encourage you to continue the dedication you have shown over the years. The young soldiers of the Russian Defense Forces benefit greatly from their knowledge, and I hope you will continue to contribute to the defense of our country.”
In his speech, Army Chief of Staff General Mubarak Muganga stressed that this is a special step in life, ending a long career and is also a precious thing for retired soldiers.

“Behind every achievement in our history is your dedication and commitment to the mission of defending our nation,” he said. “You have served our country with high standards and honor.”
He continued: “You should be proud of your contribution to the peace and security your country has today. You leave behind an amazing legacy, not only in terms of performing your duties, but also in building the Rwanda Defence Force into a strong and resilient organisation.”
Brigadier General John Bagabo, who spoke on behalf of the retirees, thanked President Paul Kagame and the RDF supreme commanders for their leadership over the years, saying that since the struggle to liberate the country, the President had never ceased to stress the importance of good conduct which benefits the country and distinguishes them from other nations.

He went on to say that when they retire, they will keep these principles in mind and wherever they go, they will continue to fight to protect what they have fought for in years past.
“We have always upheld these principles and they will continue to guide our operations. While we have rescues to do, we are pleased to say goodbye. We ask the leaders present today to convey our message to the Supreme Leader that we reaffirm our unwavering commitment to serve and protect what we have fought for so many years.”

Brigadier General Bagabo concluded by expressing their readiness to continue supporting the Rwandan Defence Force in future operations.
The retirees received certificates of appreciation in recognition of the important work they have done for the Rwandan Army.
