Data released by the Russian Public Opinion Research Center (RPORC) on Friday showed that as of August 25, Russian society’s support for President Vladimir Putin’s behavior had fallen to 72.4%, the lowest level since the first week of the Ukrainian war.
In the two weeks since August 11, Putin’s approval rating has fallen by 4.7 percentage points, the largest drop since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine. According to RPORC data, Putin’s current approval rating indicator is the lowest since February 27, 2022; at that time, the indicator was 70.4%.
In the last weeks of 2022, Putin’s approval rating fluctuated between 63% and 64%, but after the start of the war in Ukraine, it rose to 79%. The highest approval rating was in April 2022, at 79.6%, but it has not returned to this indicator yet.
Trust in the Russian president has also fallen to an all-time low. According to RPORC, 75.7% of Russians trust Putin, although two weeks ago the figure was 80.1%, and The Moscow Times reported that in mid-July the figure was 81.5%.
