(CNS): Without a campus to go to when the new school year begins, students at the Cayman Islands Continuing Education Centre (CIFEC) will attend classes at two different locations, education officials said. From September 16, practical classes will be held at the new John Gray High School from 2:00pm to 4:30pm daily, while theory classes will be held earlier in the day at the Family Life Centre.
It is unclear how long these temporary arrangements will last.
The school will also serve as a central hub for students and teachers, according to an announcement from the Ministry of Education and the Department of Educational Services (DES). The school will provide students with transportation between home and school, as well as free meals daily.
Mark Seerattan, director of CIFEC, said the school has worked to find suitable alternative sites that are close to each other, provide students with professional resources and space for students and faculty to collaborate.
DES Director Mark Ray said the arrangement is unusual, but the department remains committed to providing the best resources for staff and students regardless of the circumstances.
“The Family Life Centre is strategically located close to John Gray’s state-of-the-art facilities, which ensures that the educational experience for our students remains first class,” he claimed. “During this period we will also continue to monitor the progress of the new facility closely and provide regular updates to parents.”
CIFEC Campus Should have relocated The new school building will be moved to the renovated George Hicks Campus, but due to inexplicable delays in the project, the building has not yet been completed.
