The Central Equatoria state government has advised owners of illegal structures on public land to vacate by December.
The decision was made during a cabinet meeting on Thursday chaired by Governor Augustino Giadara Camilo Vani.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Minister of State for Peace and Caretaker Information and Communications Minister Gerald Francis said the illegal structures would be demolished by December.
He said the state education minister would issue quit notices to all those building on school land and other public spaces.
“All buildings on the school’s land will be demolished, with demolition work set to begin in December 2024,” Francis said.
“We would like to see all our school lands made free so that we can create a good learning environment for our students,” he added
The National Cabinet on May 3, 2024 approved the demolition of illegal structures on government school premises.
The decision came after the state General Education and Instruction Minister Awut Deng Acuil submitted a memorandum demanding the return of encroached public school land.
