At least two people survive Brazil church roof collapse – News

Brazil’s president has expressed solidarity with the survivors of the church roof collapse.

In the Brazilian coastal city of Recife, the roof of a church collapsed on Friday. Local authorities announced that at least two people died in the incident, TASR reported, according to Reuters.

The roof collapse injured about 20 people, with varying degrees of severity. According to Reuters, authorities do not expect any more casualties, but rescuers are still searching for debris. The church was being used to distribute food when the roof collapsed. It is not yet clear what caused the collapse.

“It is with great sadness that I learn of the two deaths and several injured, some seriously. (…) Tragedy”, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva wrote on the X social network, expressing his solidarity with the victims, their families, friends and the city of Recife.
