Prime Minister Garry Conille attended the handover of a batch of 400 sets of personal protective equipment to the Haitian National Police (PNH) and the Haitian Armed Forces (FAd’H) on Thursday, August 29, 2024. This donation from Taiwan (Republic of China) is aimed at strengthening the intervention capacity of law enforcement in the fight against armed gangs.

Prime Minister Gary Corneille announced during his speech. “Allow me to express my sincere gratitude to the Government and people of Taiwan for this act of fraternal solidarity with our countries by His Excellency Ku Wen-chien, Ambassador of Taiwan to Haiti. With deep gratitude and renewed hope, we gather today to ceremonially hand over equipment to the Haitian National Police (PNH) and the Haitian Armed Forces (FADH) (…) This donation is more than a material contribution; it is an expression of the sincere and enduring friendship between Haiti and Taiwan, two countries with a history of struggle for freedom, dignity, and democracy. With this act, Taiwan reaffirms its concern for our common pursuit of security and development.”

Gu Wenjian explained in his speech: “(…) Each kit includes: a bulletproof helmet, a bulletproof vest that meets international ballistic standards, pockets for various magazines and a radio, a balaclava, cut-resistant gloves, protective glasses and tactical knee pads.”

According to Taiwanese diplomats, including this donation, the number of personal protective equipment donated by Taiwan to the Haitian government in the past two years has reached 800 sets.

“I am pleased to be able to offer you these pieces of personal protective equipment designed for the Haitian National Police and the Haitian Armed Forces. I am confident that this equipment, made in Taiwan and tailored for the Haitian climate, will provide the best protection for our agents deployed on the ground.” Taiwan’s ambassador concluded at the end of his visit to Haiti.
