Faced with recurring water supply problems in Antananarivo, Christian Ntsay met with officials from the Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene in Ambohijatovo-Ambony yesterday.
Without immediate solutions, the situation has only worsened and water shortages have become a daily occurrence for users. The deficit is estimated to be over 60,000 cubic metres per day. Jirama has been facing problems for years; both production and distribution facilities are outdated, leading to a vicious cycle in water supply, especially in the capital.
The lack of concrete solutions will result in the former Minister in charge of water not being re-elected. The two executive heads will not be satisfied with the results presented by the former Minister’s team during her 100-day evaluation period.
The Prime Minister’s press release indicated that the work that will be carried out quickly in the regional capital and other areas of the island has been reviewed. Certain locations have been specially selected for the implementation of this work, in particular the Efaho project in the south and the Jirama Water III project, in accordance with the priorities defined in the National Master Plan. Measures have also been taken by the sanitation and hygiene departments to prevent the rise of water levels in Antananarivo and other areas during the summer.
