Zimbabwean darts star wins gold
Zimbabwean darts player Faith Dube holds the national flag aloft after winning the gold medal at the African Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region Five Darts Championship in Matspa, Swaziland.
The gold medal was Dube’s second of the day, after she won a silver in the open doubles event with Mercy Meke.
“I didn’t perform well in the competition but I am happy to win the silver and gold medals on the same day in my second competition,” Dube said.
Zimbabweans have declared the open singles event Zimbabwe’s domain with five Zimbabwean players, Mercy Meke, Ruth Banda, Thabeth Zhoya and Eunice Moyo, reaching the quarter-finals in the women’s category.
However, in the match against Zimbabwe, the experienced Zoya was defeated 2-0 by Dube.
David Nyemba and Tarirai Bhasvi faced difficulties in the men’s category as they lost to South Africans Peter Cronje and Devek Harrypasad.
Host nation Swaziland hosted a memorable tournament and the darts leadership is confident of taking the sport to the next level.
Kofi Pumlani Ndwandwe, president of the Swaziland Darts Association, said: “We are delighted that people from the region are coming to participate in this tournament. It is not easy to host this tournament but we will use the tradition of the sport to promote its development.”
