Another fake of UOC-MP: the reaction of the Extension Center

The information resources of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, which is affiliated with the Russian Orthodox Church, spread false data about the number of participants in the procession of Ukrainian Orthodox pilgrims to the Pochayev Monastery on August 19-25. In particular, the UOC said that 30 thousand believers from different regions of Ukraine took part in the pilgrimage. This was reported by the Center for Combating Disinformation, according to the review portal.

“After verifying information about the number of participants in the action with the national police, the center found that the official data did not match the actual situation,” said Elena Berezhnaya, head of the communications department of the Ukrainian National Police. According to the source, about 5,000 people were recorded participating in the march, and about 3,000 people participated in the worship service at the Pochaev Monastery.

In addition, local media noted that the number of people participating in the parade this year was significantly lower than in previous years.

The Public Outreach Center noted that by exaggerating the number of pilgrimage participants, the UOC is trying to create the illusion of a large event and strong popular support for its ideas. Thus, the UOC is trying to manipulate public opinion in the context of the adoption of a law in Ukraine that bans the activities of religious organizations linked to Russia.
