He revealed this in an interview with Senegalese renowned media Seneweb TV.

“When I entered politics, I had a vision to bring change and development to my community, Serrekunda, Kanifing, where I was born and raised, to satisfy the people and improve their quality of life,” Bensouda told Senegalese journalists in the studio. “I was 30 when I became mayor. This is my second term and I am now 37.”

Mayor Bensouda said that Jammeh’s dictatorship was his source of inspiration, and he hoped to overthrow the dictatorship and bring hope to young people. He further emphasized that he was unwilling to continue to stand idly by, but was willing to participate in the political “battle.”

“That’s why I got involved in politics. I got involved in politics in 2018 and it was my first time to be involved in politics.

In addition, Mayor KM also spoke about the leader of his party (United Democratic Party), lawyer Ousainou Darboe, who he said has been active in politics since the 1980s.

Talib also relayed to the Senegalese audience how President Adama Barrow was a member of the Democratic Progressive Alliance, but later left it to form the National People’s Party (NPP). He stressed that differences in political ideology were the cause of the separation or split, and the curious journalist continued to search for answers about the emergence of political confrontations.

“Now we are against him,” Bensouda said. “Like the relationship between the opposition and the government, it is usually not smooth because we want the country to be run in a straightforward way, with the people at the center, but we have never seen them run the country in this way.

“We are against them to keep Gambia safe, to keep the masses part of it and to ensure the progress that the people want from the government. That is our position.”
