Due to years of conflict in the two Guji regions, the Centre for Rights and Democratic Development said serious human rights violations were taking place and called for peace, justice and accountability for the residents of these regions.
In a statement issued yesterday (Saturday), the human rights defender released 36 stories from his research report that show the suffering of the residents of these areas due to the “vicious conflict” between government security forces and militants.

The center said that violations of residents’ human rights were not given due attention and collected 36 stories that they believed would bring tragedy to the masses and published them in a research report, Director-General Zehailu told VOA.
The stories, told in Afan Oromo, Amharic and English, show the involvement of the Oromo Liberation Army and government security forces in the conflict: extrajudicial killings, arbitrary and mass arrests, gender-based attacks, property destruction, forced abductions and money laundering. Torture and inhumane treatment, as well as deportations, are all taking place, he warned.

He also called for the resumption of negotiations aimed at ending the conflict between the Ethiopian government and the Oromo Liberation Army through political dialogue.
