Members of the Western Bahr el Ghazal State Legislative Assembly on Wednesday conditionally approved the policy statement of Governor Sarah Clayto. The proposal was rejected by lawmakers a month ago.
Last month, lawmakers refused to pass a policy statement asking the governor to address challenges facing the state. Lawmakers expressed concerns about the details of local tax collection and its use in policies. They stressed the need for transparency and accountability in local tax management.
While the Governor was unable to respond directly to the concerns, she acknowledged the importance of their remarks and assured the House that the Executive would provide details through the Minister.
Information Committee Chairman Simon Hagalla told the media after his second speech in State House on Wednesday that the MPs reiterated their commitment to addressing issues such as the welfare of residents, the nature of feeder roads, power outage at Wau Hospital, the state of sanitation in all government health facilities, and education.
Hagara urged residents of the state to remain patient as the parliament was also awaiting policy statements from ministers for comparison.
The state lawmakers insisted that the policy statements put forward by the Governor have achieved nothing but created more challenges instead of focusing on the delivery of services and new developments.
