WeChat Pay HK strongly condemns the recent frauds that have used WeChat, WeChat or Tencent as scammers. To help Hong Kong citizens identify fraudulent messages, WeChat and WeChat Pay HK have participated in the Office of the Communications Authority’s “SMS Sender Registration System” and used the registered sender names including #WeChat and #WeChat Pay to send one-way SMS to Hong Kong mobile phone users.
WeChat Pay HK said that in response to the malicious behavior of fraudsters impersonating the sender name of “WeChat” to send phishing SMS to defraud users, it has stopped using “WeChat”, “wechatpayhk” and “WeChatPayHK” as sender names in Hong Kong. WeChat Pay HK reiterated that WeChat, WeChat or WeChat Pay HK will never actively ask users for personal information such as bank card accounts and passwords through phone calls, SMS, etc., and will not ask users to transfer money.
