We are gathered on the lawn of Planet Money University for the greatest commencement ceremony in history – because here are some of the greatest economic minds in history. We will hear from Adam Smith, Karl Marx, John Maynard Keynes, and some surprising guests who will teach us more about economics and give us lots of life advice.

But first we must take a look at what is (somewhat) a complete history of the world economy. We will look back at what humanity has achieved over the past fifty years or so and ask ourselves, has economics made all of us better off?
