A 38-year-old man was stabbed to death during a robbery attempt at a gas station in the Englewood neighborhood Wednesday morning, Chicago police said.
Around 11:15 a.m., the victim (36) was inside a gas station in the 7600 block of South Halsted Street when a 38-year-old man and a 20-year-old youth barged in. Police said both men grabbed the victim by the hair and robbed him of his belongings.
Police said the victim pulled out a knife and stabbed the older robber, while the younger robber pulled out a gun and struck the victim in the face. Police said the victim and the two robbers fled the scene and both were detained by responding officers.
The robbery victim suffered blunt force trauma to the face and was taken to the University of Chicago Medicine in good condition.
The 38-year-old robber suffered a stab wound to the neck and was taken to the same hospital where he was pronounced dead.
