All things being equal. And in France it has to be this way. It has been so in the past and it is so now. The French committee will award French Paralympic athletes the same bonuses as they received at the Olympics: 80,000 euros each for a gold medal, 40,000 euros for a silver medal and 20,000 euros for a bronze medal. For France, this is a custom that started in Beijing 2008, while for the rest of the world it is an option starting in Paris. This is what will happen to medalists from Belgium, Canada and Spain. British Paralympic medalists and British Games medalists will receive the same treatment: no financial compensation. Again, equal! At the same time, rewards have increased for committees such as Hong Kong and Taiwan, which already offer very high bonuses to Olympic champions (Hong Kong gold medalists at the 2024 Paris Olympics will receive 700,000 euros).
The Italian Paralympic Committee has also increased the prize money: 100,000 euros for gold, 55,000 euros for silver and 35,000 euros for bronze, even lower than the championship prizes that the Italian team has received in recent weeks (180,000 euros each for gold, 90,000 euros for silver, 1 euro for silver and 45,000 euros for bronze). But things are changing and the CIP is working every day. These medals are undoubtedly a great recognition for us Italians, who will also have the opportunity to enter and be employed in the National Corps (Fiamme Oro, Fiamme Azzurre and Fiamme Rosse) and the Paralympic Defense Sports Groups from 2022: a step towards promoting real equality between the worlds of sports and the fact that Paralympic athletes, once in the military, can better plan their preparation and really focus on the practice of their sport. In addition to these possibilities involving fairness and justice, the medals will remain. As always, their value is almost laughable, but the certainty of taking home a piece of the Eiffel Tower remains: the Chaumet firm that designed them made this choice by using late 19th-century materials that had been put aside to anticipate future developments. Future reorganizations. Now it will travel the world forever.
