On Monday, August 26, 2024, the Ministry of National Education, through the Council of the Education Administration Training Center and its technical and financial partners, launched a five-day training module review workshop (August 26-30) on the topics of Risk and Disaster Management in Schools and Post-Disaster Psychosocial Support
Jean Misgaire Fanor, Director of the Education Administration Training Center, said the workshop will provide the Ministry of Education with tools to ensure capacity and skills development, capacity building and skills development of education personnel to promote knowledge and scale up actions to achieve specific goals in disaster risk and psychosocial support.
Tatiana Villegas, UNESCO Representative to Haiti, noted that the symposium was crucial for the transformation of education in Haiti and stressed that major natural disasters have had a considerable impact on the education sector. She said it was necessary to move from a reactive approach to disasters to a proactive one: effectively planning, anticipating and preparing.
The Ministry’s Director General, Yves Roblin, believes that the workshop is crucial for the start of the new school year (2024-2025). Roblin said that given the country’s weakness due to violence by armed groups, the workshop is fundamental for the preparation of school textbooks on risk and disaster management and psychosocial support for vulnerable children.
