Calgary Flames hire Brad Larsson to coaching staff – Calgary

this Calgary Flames Hired former Columbus head coach Brad Larson Serves as Ryan Huska’s assistant.

Larson spent nine seasons with the Blue Jackets, two of which were as head coach (2021-22 and 2022-23).

During his tenure, the team had a record of 62 wins, 86 losses and 16 ties, but Columbus failed to make the playoffs. He was fired after the 2022-23 season.

He served as an assistant coach with the Blue Jackets for seven seasons before replacing John Tortorella on May 9, 2021.

Larson began his coaching career with the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League and was promoted to the Blue Jackets after leading the team to the Calder Cup playoffs in two consecutive seasons.

As a player, the 46-year-old from Nakusp, British Columbia, played in 294 NHL games and recorded 134 points while playing for the Colorado Avalanche and Atlanta Thrashers.

“Brad is a great addition to our coaching staff and brings valuable recent experience as both an NHL head coach and a long-time player,” Flames general manager Craig Conroy said in a release.

“He is a great communicator, has a strong work ethic and has a wealth of knowledge from having handled a variety of situations as a coach during his career.”
