From August 19 to 23, professors from the Federal University of Viçosa (UFV) participated in a technical mission in Paramaribo and the interior, organized in partnership with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of Suriname.
The mission is part of the project “Consolidation and expansion of capacities for agro-ecological zoning and environmental education in Suriname”, which aims to strengthen the capacity of the Surinamese government in the field of agro-ecological zoning and environmental education.
The collaboration between Brazil and Suriname, coordinated by the Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC) and the Brazilian Embassy in Paramaribo, has produced valuable technical materials such as maps, soil analyses and teaching methods. This joint effort highlights the commitment of both countries to sustainable development.
During the project, an exchange of theoretical and practical knowledge took place, with a special focus on geoprocessing courses that are essential for the sustainable use of natural resources.
In the final phase, practical and theoretical training was provided to secondary school teachers, training them to adapt environmental education practices to local needs.
A review meeting with the Brazilian Ambassador to Paramaribo, Raphael Azeredo, marked the end of the technical visit.
During this meeting, the technical staff shared the results of the work week, which showed great enthusiasm and participation of the Surinamese participants, and discussed the possibilities of further strengthening cooperation.
