Congressional Democrats accuse Republican counterparts of hypocrisy over their President Biden’s sonHunter Biden was convicted of federal gun crimes on Tuesday.
“My Republican friends have been talking about how the Democrats are weaponizing the (Justice Department), but their conspiracy theories were debunked this morning by the president’s son, Hunter Biden,” said Rep. Jim McGovern, D-Mass. Found guilty in federal court on three firearms-related charges.”
“The divide here is stunning. It’s a good reminder that one party remains committed to the rule of law and the other is not. It’s as simple as that,” McGovern added.

Asked if the verdict undermines Republican arguments that there are two tiers in the judicial system, Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin, D-Ill., told Fox News, “How can you make that argument when this judicial system just sentenced the son of the president of the United States?”

Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., noted the differences between the two parties following the campaigns of former President Barack Obama and his predecessor. President Trump’s Guilty Verdict Supreme Court ruling in New York and Biden’s guilty verdict in Delaware.
“Compare the difference in reaction between Republicans and Democrats,” he said. “If Republicans don’t like the outcome of a case, they’re attacking our entire judicial system and the rule of law.”

However, he said after the Hunter Biden verdict, “I didn’t hear a single Democrat express dissatisfaction.”
Durbin also spoke about drug addiction and the toll it takes on Americans. “Thousands of American families are suffering the painful consequences of drug addiction,” the Illinois senator said.

“Now this has touched the first family of the United States. I know the president and this means a lot to him personally because he loves his son. He and his Jill have been through this for years. I’m sure their hearts are broken,” he added.
In a statement after his son was convicted, President Biden said he was proud of Hunter as a father and mentioned his son’s struggle with addiction.
“I will accept the outcome of this case and continue to respect the judicial process while Hunter considers his appeal. Jill and I will always provide love and support for Hunter and our family. Nothing will change that,” he said.
