Activities for Al-Bayda Weekly Market

The authorities of the Casablanca-Settat region have decided to put an end to a group of weekly markets that were active in the heart of the economic capital. This includes the one on the first floor of Mohammed VI Street, which leads to Mediouna.

The state authorities, under the guidance of Governor Mohammed Amshidia, have started the process of shutting down some of the markets that the city has been famous for over the years. The move is aimed at preserving the elegance and beauty of the city given its location at the level of the main road.

Sources of the electronic newspaper Hespress reported that the governor of the Casablanca-Settat region and the governor of the Casablanca region, Mohamed Amhidia, issued instructions to cancel some weekly markets, including the market for selling dogs and birds held every Sunday in the Al-Quraya area.

The same source said local authorities intervened last Sunday and closed the market, warning dog and bird sellers not to use the space in the coming weeks.

Hespress sources do not rule out that the directive of the Casablanca authorities could affect the “Al Arbaa” weekly market, known for selling used clothes, and “Al Bal”, which is located next to the “La Veray” market.

The approach of the local authorities has caused dissatisfaction among some young people from various communities in Casablanca and other neighboring areas who specialize in raising and selling dogs and birds, as this is the source of livelihood for many of them, in addition to being a specific destination for those who wish to raise birds or dogs.

The Casablanca authorities are working to eliminate these gatherings of people which cause chaos and an increase in thefts, as there are many experts in pickpocketing, not to mention the quarrels that break out between some tourists in these spaces.

This step also aims to reduce the randomness of various aspects to which the community of the economic capital has adapted, especially since it is considered an economic pole and Morocco is betting on it to highlight its civilized image during the demonstrations that are expected to be held. The most important of these is the 2025 African Cup of Nations, followed by the 2030 World Cup.
