JAKARTA (ANTARA) – June 12 is Russia Day because on this day in 1990 the Declaration of State Sovereignty was adopted, marking a new milestone in Russia’s development.
Russia is a country with a long history and unique cultural heritage, a vast territory, and more than 190 ethnic groups living in harmony.
Their outstanding achievements and contributions to world science, literature and art are an indispensable and important part of world heritage. The poems and novels of Pushkin, Tolstoy, Dostoyevsky and others have been translated into many languages.
It’s hard to imagine classical music without Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev and Shostakovich.
Russian ballet has become a national brand. Yuri Gagarin, the first cosmonaut to travel into space, has become one of the world’s most recognisable figures with his distinctive smile.
Every student knows the Mendeleev periodic table, named after the famous Russian scientist Dmitri Mendeleev who invented it.
There are many glorious chapters in Russian history. The most important of these is the role played by the Soviet people in the victory over Nazism in 1945 and their extraordinary heroism and sacrifice.
As one of the founding members of the United Nations, Russia has always advocated full respect for the UN Charter since the establishment of the United Nations, while being committed to multilateralism, universally recognized principles and norms of international law and the values of equal international cooperation.
It helped the people of Asia and Africa resist colonialism, gain freedom and independence, and build nations and economies.
Today, Russia is developing amidst continued drastic changes in the geopolitical landscape.
Despite rampant anti-Russian propaganda and an unprecedented increase in illegal unilateral coercive measures, Russia remains one of the key players in global political and economic affairs.
Russia is rapidly expanding new logistics and cooperation areas. In 2023, Russia’s gross domestic product (GDP) will grow by 3.6%, while in the first quarter of 2024, this figure will reach 5.4%.
Recently, the World Bank ranked Russia as the fourth largest economy by GDP based on public-private partnerships (PPP).
Russia is strengthening its ties with partners in Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America.
In particular, the ASEAN-Russia partnership has developed steadily, with both sides working together to promote regional stability, economic development, connectivity, resilience and people-to-people exchanges.
The Russian President recently confirmed: “Developing a strategic partnership with ASEAN is an important diplomatic priority for us.”
Russia firmly supports ASEAN’s core principles and solidarity. These principles are particularly important today, when the instigators of the Ukrainian crisis are pursuing a policy of division and confrontation in regional processes and structures.
Russia’s joint initiatives deepen mutual understanding and cooperation with ASEAN member states and contribute to peace and progress in the Asia-Pacific region. Russia looks forward to further discussing these initiatives at the Vientiane Ministerial Meeting in July.
