Palau Koror — According to reliable sources, the current Ngatpang Provincial Governor, Jersey Iyal, is expected to withdraw from the Ngatpang Provincial Representatives Election scheduled for November 12.

Iyal filed his candidacy for the House of Representatives along with two other candidates, Ngatpong state lawmaker John Techitong and former governor Francesca R. Otong. If Iyal withdraws, the race for the House seat will be left with only two candidates. Incumbent Ngatpong state lawmaker Lee Otobed has opted to run for the Senate.

Sources from Ngatpong said some traditional chiefs and people urged Iyal not to run in the election and expressed their hope that he would continue to serve as the governor of the state.

Iyal was sworn in as governor again in January last year after defeating the incumbent governor, Francesca Otong, by more than 20 votes.
