Speaking to The Korea Times about economic relations, he stressed Azerbaijan’s geo-economic importance, being located on the main trade route between Asia and Europe.

“In the current geopolitical environment, as the Russian-Ukrainian conflict disrupts traditional routes, the Central Corridor – reminiscent of the ancient Silk Road – has taken on greater significance. We see this as a prime area for potential cooperation with Korean logistics companies,” he noted.

Amirbayov also revealed that bilateral trade volume exceeded $200 million in the first half of 2024, but he stressed that there is still greater potential.

The Central Corridor passes through Central Asia, the Caucasus, Turkey and Eastern Europe, connecting the container railway freight network of China and EU countries.

It takes an average of 20 to 25 days for trains along the corridor to deliver goods from China to Europe, which is one of the main advantages of this transport corridor.
