American music star Mariah Carey has announced that her mother and sister died on the same day.

The singer shared the shocking news on Monday, expressing her deep sorrow over the sudden loss of a loved one.

“I lost my mother last weekend and it was heartbreaking. Unfortunately, my sister also passed away on the same day,” she said

The singer expressed gratitude for the time she has recently spent with her mother, adding: “I was so lucky to have spent the last week with my mom before she passed away. I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this difficult time.”

As of now, the cause of death for Patricia, 87, and Alison, 63, remains undisclosed.

However, Alison’s close friend and carer Dave Baker revealed to The Sun that Alison had been in home hospice care in her final weeks, constantly battling health issues, including problems with her internal organs.

“Behind that tough exterior, Alison is a very smart, warm and sensitive person.

“I knew her for nine years, as her friend, and in recent months, as her caregiver, and I will miss her terribly. Goodbye, Alison. May you now find peace, and your tortured soul forever free from earthly pain,” Baker shared

It’s no secret that the Fantasy singer has a complicated relationship with her mother, Patricia.

Patricia was an opera singer, a graduate of the Juilliard School in New York, and a vocal coach. She was married to Alfred Roy Carey, who died in 2002.

The couple divorced when Maria was three years old.

In her 2020 memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey , the pop legend opened up about her complicated relationship with her mother.

“Like many aspects of my life, my journey with my mother has been filled with contradictions and competing realities.

“Our relationship was never black and white – it was a rainbow of emotions. Our bond was a prickly rope laced with pride, pain, shame, gratitude, jealousy, admiration and disappointment. A complex love bound my heart tightly to my mother’s,” Maria wrote.
