According to media reports, the cause of death of the famous singer’s mother and sister is still unclear. Patricia, 87, the ex-wife of Alfred Roy Carey, was an opera singer and voice specialist. Although the star inherited her vocal talent, their relationship was complicated, as written on the People magazine website. “Like many aspects of my life, my journey with my mother was full of contradictions and competing realities. It was never black and white, but a rainbow of emotions,” the portal quoted the singer’s memoir published in 2020. “Our relationship was fraught with thorns of pride, pain, shame, gratitude, jealousy, mutual admiration and disappointment,” the artist wrote.

Maria also spoke of her love for her mother, the BBC recalled. She expressed this in the dedication of her memoir: “Pat, to my mother, who did the best she could. I will do my best and always love you.”

Mariah had an equally complicated relationship with her older sister Alison, 63. She wrote in her memoir that it was “emotionally and psychologically safer for her not to have contact with her siblings” at the time, we read in People magazine.
