The 10-year-old girl, who is being treated at Nicosia’s Makarios Hospital, has been taken off a ventilator and is improving after she was found unconscious in a hotel pool in Protaras on Saturday while on holiday with her family.
Steve Theodoulou, press representative of the Famagusta Police Department, said that “at about 3 pm on Saturday, August 24, the Paralimni Police Department received information from the Famagusta General Hospital that a minor girl had been transferred after being pulled unconscious from a hotel pool in Protaras».
Members of the Paralimni Police Station “went to Famagusta General Hospital where they found the little girl, approximately 10 years old, from the UK, who was on holiday with her family at the hotel. Due to the severity of her condition, the 10-year-old was intubated and taken by ambulance to Makarios Hospital in Nicosia, where she is hospitalised.”
According to Mr. Theodulu, “the little girl is off the ventilator, she is awake and according to the attending doctors, her condition has improved”.
He also said that “Police continue to receive statements from people who saw or perceived what happened to the little girl in the hotel pool, hotel staff and medical staff at the Famagusta General Hospital. In order to find out the circumstances of the 10-year-old child who was found unconscious in the hotel pool”.
Inspections are continuing at the Paralimni police station.
