Last Saturday, a 32-year-old woman from Paramaribo, Suriname, celebrated an extraordinary anniversary. She told GFC News Life that she had not been anywhere for five years that day, and her boyfriend was there.

The woman, who is in her thirties, began living together with her partner in 2019 and then reached an extraordinary agreement: she no longer had to work and would be taken care of by her boyfriend, but in return she would never go out on the streets without him.

“It’s a happy fact that I’ve been honoring this agreement for five years. I’ll even keep it going for the next ten years,” she explained.

The background of this agreement is that the boyfriend had a bad experience in his previous relationship. Therefore, he finds it difficult to trust his current partner when she goes out alone.

To further ensure his safety, he also installed multiple cameras at all entrances and around the house. Using his phone, he can remotely see who enters his house.

The woman explained to GFC News Editor-in-Chief Jennifer Atmo over the phone that she was happy with the arrangement and did not feel the need to go out without her boyfriend.

Now, the couple is looking forward to the future and hopes to continue their unique arrangement.

Their story highlights the dynamics of trust and control in modern relationships and raises questions about the balance between individual freedom and interdependence.
