Series of landslides in Ethiopia’s Amhara region kills 23The tragedy affected four districts in Gondar and also caused displacement and damage to agriculture and houses.

Selamyehun Mulat, director of the local Food Security and Disaster Prevention Office, provided us with the following information:
- Eleven villages were affected.
- The latest landslide occurred last Saturday in the Abna Kebele area of Tselemti district.
- Four people died in the last landslide.
- Six people are still missing.
Situation of those affected
- Eight injured people are receiving treatment.
- 480 households had to be evacuated.
- 2,700 people were displaced.
- 1,775 hectares of agricultural land were affected.
- 48 homes were damaged.
Ethiopia has been hit by a series of landslides since last month due to heavy rainsOn July 22, an avalanche in the village of Kencho Shacha Gozdi killed more than 257 people.
The Institute of Meteorology issued a notice on August 13 warning of potential dangers such as landslides, rising rivers, and flash floods.
Authorities stressed the need to take precautions, especially in mountainous areas. They also recommended monitoring critical infrastructure to reduce risks.
